The Moving Checklist

Moving to a new home is an exciting step, but it can also feel overwhelming with so many details to manage. From giving notice and arranging movers to setting up utilities and settling into your new community, there’s a lot to think about. Planning ahead makes the process much smoother and helps you avoid last-minute stress. To make things easier, we’ve put together a simple checklist tailored for New Zealand tenants and homeowners to help you stay organised every step of the way — before, during, and after your move.

Before You Move

  • Check smoke alarms and test all utilities.
  • Lodge your bond with Tenancy Services (if renting).
  • Set up rubbish and recycling days with your local council.

  • Sort, sell, or donate items you no longer need.
  • Arrange utilities – power, gas, water, and internet – to start at your new address.
  • Redirect mail with NZ Post and update your address with your bank, IRD, NZTA, and employer.
